In Israel, the name Gavrieli has long been associated with white- collar crime, and the last week brought a new chapter in a long book of allegations of wrong- doing. Not for the first time, Shoni and Reuven Gavrieli were arrested earlier this week, accused of money laundering and running casinos online. Both men are currently under house arrest.

The arrest comes after a two- year investigation into the illegal casinos online and other unlawful activities.

Israeli Knesset member Inbal Gavrieli, who is the daughter of Shoni Gavrieli and the niece of Reuven Gavrieli, refused to allow police investigators to search the family home for evidence that could implicate her father and uncle in running illegal casinos online and money laundering.

When the police came to search the house in which Inbal, Shoni, and other members of the Gavrieli family reside, the Member of Knesset denied them entry, claiming political immunity. In an interview, Inbal said that there was nothing in the home that related to her father’s operation of casinos online.

The Gavrieli clan says that the accusations against them are totally unfounded. Inbal’s father and uncle say that the casinos online in which they invest are located in countries in which the activity is legal.

Several Mississippi legislators have suggested that the state conduct a feasibility study on a special monorail system that would link the best casinos of Tunica County to one another.

Webster Franklin, president of the Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau, has said that he envisions the monorail system as starting at Tunica Airport, continuing on to the best casinos along the levee, and with a final destination at Memphis International Airport. A feasibility study on the monorail will tell lawmakers if the proposed plan to link the county’s best casinos is possible. They also want to know if the project would benefit the area’s best casinos enough to be worthwhile.

Tunica County leaders have been considering a variety of plans on how to increase customer flow to the area’s best casinos for several years, and the monorail plan has gained a significant amount of popularity. However, lawmakers warn that, even if the proposal to finance a monorail study is approved, the monorail will not be constructed for at least the next five years.

The study, if approved, is to be financed with federal transportation funds and conducted by the state Department of Transportation.

The leader of a poverty- ridden North Dakota Native American tribe claims that the state owes his tribe the permission to set up a casino and card gambling site in Grand Forks.

Ken Davis, the chairman of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, said that it is the state’s obligation to allow his tribe to build a card gambling and casino site in the southern part of Grand Forks.

The Turtle Mountain Band already has a card gambling and casino center on its reservation, which is in Belcourt, near the Canadian border. However, the gambling site is not as profitable as one in Grand Forks would be, given its lack of proximity to major highways.

Usually, Native American tribes are allowed to build casinos on tribal lands only. However, Chairman Davis claims that, in fact, Grand Forks is part of his tribe’s traditional lands. His tribe, he said, only gave up the land in and around Grand Forks because the U.S. government coerced a former leader of the tribe, Chief Red Bear, into signing an unfair treaty.

“We have a legitimate right to be in Grand Forks,” Davis said.

Jerry Hielden of Grand Forks has led the effort to stop a Turtle Mountain tribal card gambling and casino site from being built in that city. He believes that such a center would bring a variety of social problems to the city.
